Kaltura is an in-house video and audio server similar to YouTube and is designed for publishing and sharing large media files, such as audio and video files. Videos and audio files should NEVER be uploaded directly to a Blackboard course, as they consume a lot of space and Blackboard may block you from uploading a large file.
Setting up and accessing Kaltura My Media
Log into Blackboard using your UHART username and password.
On the main menu, go down to Tools Kaltura My Media
Allow the Integration
Once you have authorized Kaltura, it will put you into the media library. You will not have to authorize this login account again.
At first, you will see nothing in My Media, but as you upload or create video or audio files, they will appear here. This is where your media will be housed and managed.
Student Video Submissions
Students can submit videos through normal Blackboard assignments. Create your video as you usually would, then use your phone or computer to upload it as follows:
If you have already narrated over your PowerPoint and exported it as a Video:
Click on the link for this assignment.
Click in the Submission box at the bottom of the assignment.
Click the + button at the very end of the menu --> Content Market --> scroll down and find Kaltura Embed Tool. If you don’t see the + button, it may be that you only have one layer of ribbon menus. Click … to reveal the other two ribbon layers.
In the My Media page, click the Add New button --> Media Upload
Navigate to where you have saved your video file (e.g. mov, avi, mp4 file) and attach it.
On your My Media page, find the video then click the </> Embed button to the right of it.
Finish submitting your assignment in Blackboard.
